Maya Bay is located in Ko Phi Phi Ley 48 km southeast of Phuket City. Ko Phi Phi Ley is the second largest island of the archipelago, after the island of Ko Phi Phi Don - Thailand. The island consists of a ring of steep limestone hills surrounding 2 shallow bays, the Maya Bay and Loh Samah with beautiful coral reefs at the entrance with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water.
Snorkeling and diving are excellent throughout the bay, large underwater boulders are encrusted with coral and brightly coloured fish are numerous. Visibility is excellent. Many tour companies bring visitors here to snorkel from Phuket, Krabi and Phi Phi Don. Sea kayaking is also popular. Kayaking tour boats come into the bay and moor while letting clients explore.

Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. According to the Lonely Planet's Thailand guidebook, the 2004 tsunami dramatically improved the look of Maya Bay. The best time to visit Maya Bay is between November and April during the high season when seas are calm and access to the bay is easy.
The main dive sites on Ko Phi Phi Ley are at Loh Samah, Maya Bay entrance and Palong Bay, and are often combined with diving at Ko Bida Noi, a rocky outcrop some 500 meters south of Loh Samah.
