Wayang Golek - Sundanese Culture

Wayang Golek is a Sundanese traditional puppet from West Java - Indonesia. Made of Albasia wood. Carved and painted in great detail and to wear clothes. All made by hand (handicrafts). Played by one person, called Dalang. The puppeteer manipulates a lot of character puppet voice, head, hands and body in motion, so it looks alive.


The event itself is called Pagelaran Wayang Golek. Accompanied by the Gamelan players, traditional musical instruments, Sinden (female singer) and Alok (male singer). Usually when the show needed duration of 6 to 7 hours through the night.

This story is taken from the Mahabharata (descendants of Barata) and Ramayana (Adventures of Rama), but the story that the show is slightly different and have been added, has been adapted to local cultures, Sundanese culture. Pagelaran (in english language meaning the show) Wayang Golek is usually done in a circumcision ceremony, wedding, inauguration, the company. This show is full of entertainment that will make you very impressed, especially with educational messages delivered.
